Our Programs and Classes - Fall 2008

Private Lessons:
There are many life skills that can be developed through music study such as patience, commitment, perseverance, logical thinking, goal setting and time-management. Individual music instruction is an important format for these developments. Teachers at SAM are committed to sharing their knowledge and love of music by guiding each student through the essential skills required to play a musical instrument. That, combined with a commitment from our students and families to a consistent and disciplined practice schedule, is the formula for a successful and enjoyable learning experience.
SAM offers private music lessons to students of all ages and abilities in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, bass guitar and music theory. (Instruments not listed may be added if there is sufficient interest).

SAM Private Lesson Program consists of:

  • 16 weekly lessons (30, 45 or 60 minutes)
  • Informal Performance Workshops
  • Department Master Classes and Workshops
  • Discounts to Guest Master Classes and Workshops
  • Semester Progress Reports
  • Student Recitals

All Private Lesson Students at SAM will have the opportunity to participate in an Informal Performance Workshop each semester, at no additional charge. There will be two workshops per semester designed to boost confidence and diminish performance anxiety. Students must sign up to participate.
Workshop Coaches: Christine Petrucci & rotating SAM teachers

Department Master Classes and Workshops may occur, at each teacher’s discretion, in lieu of a private lesson so that students can enjoy learning with and performing for their peers in a relaxed setting.

In addition to regular communications of progress between teacher and students, each semester SAM students will receive a written evaluation from their private lesson instructor. All instructors will be available for consultation with the student, parents or guardians during “Parents’ Week”.

Student recitals are regularly scheduled at SAM and at other Seacoast area locations. Although performances are not mandatory, we encourage our students to participate in these events as part of the total musical education experience.

A Six Week Trial Option is a private lesson program offered one time only to new students. This program is designed to help those who need a little time to decide whether they are ready to commit to their music study on a more permanent basis. The six weeks must be consecutive and there are no extensions or makeup lessons. If the student wishes to continue throughout the semester, the tuition shall be pro-rated.

Keys for Kids: 45 minutes, weekly for 16 weeks

“Keys for Kids ®” is an engaging comprehensive group music program designed to help children discover the world of music through music games, ear training, solfege singing, rhythm activities, and playing on the keyboard. It quickly became a popular way to prepare and inspire individual instrumental studies. Each student has a very joyful learning experience while gaining a wide range of musical skills and knowledge for a lifelong love of music.

Courses are designed to encourage development of both the individual's and the group's musical skills. Lessons are organized in a carefully planned sequence that guarantees fun and success. Activities cover many aspects of musicianship while accommodating children's attention spans. Children develop a solid musical foundation in preparation for choosing any instrument for future study.

Classes are taught to small groups of parent-child teams. Groups are carefully organized according to children's age, skill level, and musical goals. Parents are encouraged (Mini Keys, required) to learn along with their children.

Each semester students receive a new, exciting, and challenging book that includes music pieces, theory, sight-reading, ear training, and technique activities.  Students who progress through each level will graduate as independent musicians who can read, write, perform, love, and understand music.
