Seacoast Academy of Music was founded in 2001 by piano teacher and director, Christine Petrucci. As an experienced music educator, Ms Petrucci’s vision for the Academy of Music included an engaging and inspiring environment for music instruction to students of all ages and abilities. As a professional performing musician, her vision also included a facility in which those students and other musicians could perform recitals and concerts for the local community.
Its first home was in the Drake Farm Antique Book Barn on US Rte 1 in North Hampton, NH where private music lessons were taught and a series of Sunday afternoon community concerts was established. As student enrollment increased and concert attendance grew, it was evident that a larger space was needed to pursue the dream.
In January of 2005, Seacoast Academy of Music moved into Centennial Hall. There are currently 10 music Instructors on the faculty offering private music lessons in beginning piano, classical piano, jazz piano, voice, vocal coaching, violin, guitar, bass guitar, jazz improvisation, music theory and music composition. Group classes include “Little Fingers Piano Class”, Suzuki violin classes and Jazz Combo. Piano classes for 6 and 7 year olds will be available in January. Students participate in recitals, concerts, festivals and competitions throughout the year. Field trips to professional events from Portsmouth, NH to Boston are organized and attended. Guest Instructors and performers conduct master classes and workshops.
At this time recitals are held in the large ensemble room on the first floor but the dream continues...for the renovation of the upstairs concert hall where once again the arts and the community will come together.
